Extra Curricular Activities

Winners at Tibberton School

The school aims to introduce children to a range of sporting activities and encourages them to appreciate how such interests can enrich their lives. To this end a large number of activities are arranged throughout the year and children of all ages have the opportunity to participate in them.

The large hard-surfaced playground has been marked out to encourage netball, football, hockey and cricket. The school field is marked to provide full size and 6-a-side football pitches. In summer an athletics track, a rounders pitch and a large area for cricket are also provided. The playing field boundary is used as a 1000m cross country and fitness training circuit.

Within the curriculum each child takes part in one games session and one indoor gymnastics/dance session per week plus several short class based '10 Minute PE' sessions, ensuring at least two hours of quality PE each week for all pupils. During the Summer Term the Key Stage 2 children have weekly swimming sessions at Newport Pool, with many gaining distance awards.

There are a number of optional activities which vary according to the time of year. These are held during lunch times and after school and include gymnastics and dance, cross country, athletics, cricket, rounders, football, tag rugby and netball, as well as playground games and multi-skills sessions.

Olympic Archer Alison Williamson at Tibberton School

The school aims to ensure that children receive appropriate advice on rules and skills, and professional coaches from the Telford & Wrekin Sports Development Team come into school on a regular basis to extend sports experiences. The school is part of a sports partnership with Adams' Grammar School in Newport. This has enabled us to access extra PE support and specialist coaching.

Area competitions are arranged throughout the year. Thanks to strong links with local sporting clubs we are able to help and direct individuals who wish to develop their sporting activities further and several have progressed to Telford and County standard while still at Primary School.

Sport at Tibberton School

The school aims to try and ensure that each child achieves their true potential in the range of sporting activities it provides.
